Clayton State University

Clayton State University (CSU) is a public, coed residential university located in Morrow, Georgia. The university's beautiful lakeside setting on 175 acres is just fifteen miles southeast of downtown Atlanta. Clayton State University is a member of the University System of Georgia. Enrollment at the university is 6,600 students.

The university was established in 1965 as Clayton Junior College. In 1986 it became a 4 year institution and was renamed Clayton State College. In 1996 the state Board of Regents granted university status to Clayton State. That same year the university became the first public university in the Southeast to issue notebook computers to all students in all majors.

Clayton State offers 40 undergraduate majors leading to Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees. Eight master's degree programs are offered, including Master of Science in Nursing, Master of Health Administration, Master of Arts in Teaching, Master of Liberal Arts Studies, and Master of Business Administration. New master's programs in psychology began in the fall of 2010.

Students are able to participate in 12 intercollegiate athletic teams at Clayton State. The "Lakers" play NCAA Division II sports in the Peach Belt Athletic Conference. Intramural sports are also available. The university's new Student Activities Center contains a state of the art fitness center and two gymnasiums.

Clayton State is the only university in the country adjacent to both state and national archives facilities. The Georgia Archives and the National Archives at Atlanta provide excellent opportunities for research. Students are also afforded unique internship opportunities.

Spivey Hall is a world class concert hall located on the campus of CSU. The impressive visual centerpiece of the facility is the magnificent 79-rank, 4,413 pipe Albert Schweitzer Memorial Organ. A popular venue for jazz and classical music concerts, Spivey Hall presents more than 400 events annually. Its frequent appearances on American Public Media's "Performance Today" have given the concert hall national recognition. Spivey Hall is celebrating its 20th anniversary season in 2010-11. It has one of the state's largest educational outreach programs. The Noteworthy Concert Series serves over 20,000 children each year from 17 counties in the Atlanta metro area.

Clayton State University is one of the fastest growing units of the University System of Georgia. The main campus has expanded over the last several years, and the university has satellite campuses in Peachtree City, Jonesboro, and McDonough, Georgia. CSU provides outstanding educational and career opportunities for residential and commuters students.
