Delhi University

The University of Delhi or DU was established in 1922 in India. At that time, there are only three colleges in Delhi, St. Staphens College that was founded in 1881, the Hinu College founded in 1889 and the Ramjas College founded in 1917, which was affiliated to the Delhi University. When DU started it only has three colleges with two faculties (Arts and Sciences) and just a number of 750 students.

university of kentucky

It is known to be one of the prominent universities in India and is considered among the largest universities in the world with students exceeding to more than 300,000. It a pride of India since it offers high standards in teaching and research.

University

Wishing to cope with the demand, in early seventies it initiated a new organization pattern which was based on the multi-campus concept. South Camus started in year 1973 with postgraduate programs in some departments of the Faculties of Arts and Social Sciences in a rented building. The construction of the East and West Campus followed then. The former is developed with the University College of Science while the West Campus will have an eye on Engineering and Technology.

The current Chancellor of the university is the Vice-President of India and Deepak Pental is the Vice Chancellor. Its former Vice Chancellors are: Dr. Hari Singh Gour which was the first Vice Chancellor and founder of University of Sagar, Professor Moonis Raza, Professor Singh and Professor Saroop Singh.

The University is also known for its distinguished alumni and faculties. The faculties of DU includes: Arts, Ayurvedic and Unani Medicine, Commerce and Business Studies, Education, International Discipline and Applied Science, Law, Management Studies, Mathematical Sciences, Medical Sciences, Music and Fine Arts, Social Studies, Technology and Undergraduate Courses. But the faculties in Economics, English, Science and Hindustani Classical Music are the most the popular.
At present there are more than 80 colleges under the University of Delhi. The university is equipped with modern facilities that cater to the needs of every student. It has amenities in order to provide comfort to the students as well as to the school administrators and faculties. A bank and a post office are present in the school premises. There is also a Railway Reservation Counter and a D.T.C Bus Pass for the use of the University community. The University built Guest House that can be used by the University staff and administrators to house their guests. There is also a fine Coffee House that provides mouth watery foods. The University employees run the University Cooperatives that sells everyday items on discounted prices. Comprehensive health services are being provided by the WUS Health Center of the University. Other facilities are the Computer Center, University Science Instrument Center and the University Press.

The University has a very large population of students. However it is able to give the best services to all its students. The University made it a point to make their students active both in academic and non-academic subjects. It has a very active sports program that has updated facilities in basketball, archery, cricket, swimming and many more. Each college is required to have a Sport Program and because of hard work and dedication some of its students were proved to be outstanding in national and international levels. Delhi University also organized a Culture Council to promote cultural activities. DU believed that student governance is a vital part in a student's life; they helped students organized a student council called Delhi University Students Union (DUSU).

It is no wonder why the Delhi University has been considered one of the best universities there is. It's a university that would surely give a gigantic stepping stones for great success to their devoted students!

University of Cincinnati Basketball

The University of Cincinnati basketball program has long been a difference maker in the field of college basketball on a national level. Although the Cincinnati Bearcats have recently experienced a surprising shift in which their football program has grown more successful than their basketball program the 40,000 student college and its hundreds of thousands of supportive alumni continue to consider the University of Cincinnati to be a basketball school. Over the last two years the football team has achieved unprecedented success going 23-4 while at the same time the University of Cincinnati basketball program has not participated in the NCAA Tournament since 2005.

university

Despite a dearth of recent post season appearances the University of Cincinnati basketball program has experienced a tremendous amount of success throughout its rich history. Among the many notable achievements are:

University

24 NCAA Tournament appearances (combined record of 44-12) 13 NBA Draft picks 6 NCAA Tournament Final Four appearances 2 NCAA Tournament National Championships (1961 and 1962)

As a proud member of the Big East Conference the University of Cincinnati plays their home basketball games in the curiously named Fifth Third Arena (the result of the merging of Fifth Bank and Third Bank) which seats over 13,000 people comfortably. The city of Cincinnati has professional football and baseball franchises in the Bengals and Reds but does not have a professional basketball team to its name. As a result of the lack of an NBA franchise the University of Cincinnati basketball program has become the marquee team for its sport in a large metropolitan area in much the same way as the USC Trojans football team fills the void in Los Angeles that is created from not having a NFL team.

Despite having not won a national championship in decades the University of Cincinnati basketball team was extremely success for much of recent history. During the past thirteen seasons the Cincinnati squad has completed the season in a top 10 polling position in a majority of those years. The recent vanishing act from the top 25 standings largely dates back to August 2005 when University of Cincinnati President Nancy Zimpher fired then head basketball coach Bob Huggins. Mrs. Zimpher justified the termination by primarily siting the fact that the two did not see eye to eye in terms of her vision for improving the academic reputation of both the school and more specifically its athletic programs.

Huggins, who now coaches at West Virginia University, enjoyed a tremendous amount of success during his 16 years in Cincinnati which ended with 14 straight NCAA Tournament appearances. Former assistant coach Andy Kennedy replaced Huggins but neither Kennedy nor his successor Mick Cronin have had anywhere near the same level of success with the University of Cincinnati basketball team that was once enjoyed by Coach Huggins. Exactly how the University of Cincinnati basketball program will fair in the second decade of the twenty-first century remains to be seen but fans around the world are optimistic that their alma mater will return to prominence.

Almeda University

Life experience degrees online and terms like scandal, diploma mill, degree mill, go hand in hand. This is the outcome of some unscrupulous institutions stemming up in the name of providing degrees and diplomas and spoiling the name of the whole business.

university physics

Regardless of the general perception of the life experience degree system in the public, the public knows it well that there are institutions which offer credible life experience degrees. It is just that people on message boards 'flow' in a sham and try to project themselves as cool or whatever if they second something said by the other one. It is a well-known fact, that people are different in real world and different in forums and bulletin boards.

University

Almeda University is a university which has been sucked into the black hole of the online life experience degrees scandal, just because it, too, offers life experience degrees. A thing to note, as to why Almeda has drawn much flak is that the university awards degrees totally online, no examinations nothing.

Again, the above statement is just a supposition which exists in the general public. Almeda DOES verify your eligibility by asking you to write a thesis or dissertation if in doubt. If you write a thesis on behalf of your dog, your dog would get the degree - not on its virtue, but because of you - so, in effect, it is you who got the degree. This is not a joke; it is YOU who are trying to defraud the university by faking credentials, it is YOU who are contemplating a crime.

Life experience is your practical knowledge gained through regular interaction with your job. Reward it with a life experience degree, valid in over 67 percent of the corporate world and watch doors open for you.

With the flagship product, the real estate course, you get 12 complete modules, covering
everything from foreclosure profits, to real estate investing, to deal negotiation, all
the way to first time homebuying and making money by managing real estate properties.

of a property, and predict future value. You also get access to Trump's Advantage Club,
where you get advanced money making strategies, exclusive tips from real estate experts,
and 24x7 access to Donald Trump's handpicked team of experts.

TrumpU's Entrepreneur program is also very popular, and its 17-part program is one that
even the best business schools do not cover in adequate detail. Subjects like Writing
a Successful Business Plan, and Turning Ideas into Successful Businesses are practical,
and give good step-by-step guidance on how to achieve success.

There may be no personal instruction by Donald Trump at Trump University, but the
content is high quality, and delivered by professionals. If you are looking for

History of Clemson University

Clemson is a university located in Clemson, South Carolina which is in Pickens County. It was founded into 1889 and only consists of five colleges. The university has more than 17,000 students from every state and almost 90 countries.

university of kentucky apparel

The city of Clemson is served by the Clemson Area Transit bus system. It is also served by Amtrak's Crescent line running through Clemson's train station.

University

Clemson is known as their Foothills campus.

Thomas Green Clemson IV, the Clemson's founder, came to the Foothills of the state. He left most of his estate in his will to be used to establish a university that would teach agriculture and the mechanical arts. Clemson wanted the university to be modeled after Mississippi A&M which is now Mississippi State University.

Governor Richardson in 1889 signed the bill establishing the Clemson Agricultural College of South Carolina. Federal funds for agricultural education were transferred from South Carolina College to Clemson.

Clemson Agricultural College opened in 1893 with only 446 students. Clemson was an all-white male military school. Clemson remained this way until 1955 when it changed to "civilian" status for students and became a coeducational institution. In 1963, Clemson admitted its first black student. In 1964, the college was renamed Clemson University.

The Carnegie Foundation classifies it as more selective. When admitting freshmen, they place emphasis on the rigor of high school study and scores on standardized tests, SAT or ACT. Clemson also considers class rank and extracurricular activities.

Clemson is home to The Calhoun Honors College.

The Clemson National Scholars Program is the university's top academic recruiting scholarship.

The University has recently undertaken an endeavor to become a Top 20 public university. The process undergoes enhancing its graduate programs while continuing to emphasize the quality of the undergraduate experience. The initiative has led to increased faculty compensation, higher graduation rates, and higher incoming student SAT averages. Clemson has moved up the rankings from 34th to 22nd, according to the U.S. News and World Report.

Clemson offers club, intramural, and varsity sports. Clemson has 19 varsity men and women's sports teams. They compete in the Atlantic Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference of the NCAA's Division I as the Clemson Tigers. Their most famous facilities on campus are: Memorial Stadium, Doug Kingsmore Stadium, Littlejohn Coliseum, Historic Riggs Field, and Fike Recreation Center. Clemson has won 4 national championships, including football, 2 in men's soccer, and men's golf.

Clemson's Greek system is somewhat different from other large universities in the southern United States in that there are no Greek houses on campus. There are residence halls designated for fraternities and sororities, but there are no traditional Greek houses on Clemson's campus.

Clemson's rich military history is very conspicuous on campus.

Although Clemson became a coeducational civilian institution in 1955, the university still maintains an active military presence. The university is home to detachments for Army and Air Force ROTC as well as a host school for the Marine Corps PLC program adjacent to the Semper Fi Society.

Students spend time off campus in downtown Clemson which is right where the university is at. Downtown Clemson is located adjacent to the University's campus. Students on campus are within walking distance to bars, cafes, restaurants, and shopping. Greenville is about 45 minutes away and many students choose to travel there on the weekends.

University of Arizona Basketball

University of Arizona basketball is a source of pride for hundreds of thousands of alumni that have come out of the Tucson, Arizona based school. With over 25,000 students attending the college commonly referred to as U of A or simply Arizona there is a tremendous following of the University of Arizona basketball schedule with the winter moods of many people being dependent upon how well the current Arizona basketball coach did the night before.

university physics

Arizona has been playing basketball since the early twentieth century with their initial win coming in the first game the program ever played. A 1904 contest that resulted in a victory over the Morenci YMCA team marked the first of what would become many wins in the storied tradition known today as Arizona Wildcat basketball. Long before joining the Pacific 10 Conference (Pac-10) in 1878 many of the games during their first decade of existence came against local YMCA competition, a practice that was surprisingly common in that era. In fact, the University of Kentucky which has the current record for most men's basketball wins also began their tradition with a single win over a Lexington YMCA team in 1903.

University

Coming off the 2008-2009 season the University of Arizona basketball program has a twenty-five year streak of consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament. After getting off to a rocky 12-10 start for the 2009-2010 season many Wildcat fans are rightfully concerned that their impressive streak may be in jeopardy. During the twenty-five year streak U of A has reached the Sweet Sixteen twelve times, the Elite Eight seven times, the Final Four on four separate occasions, and has one NCAA National Championship to their credit from the 1997 season.

Much of the success enjoyed by the Wildcats over the last twenty-five years can be attributed to esteemed former head coach Lute Olsen. Coach Olsen came from the University of Iowa in 1983 to inherit a University of Arizona basketball program that had just come off of a forgettable 4-24 record which included only one conference victory. In just three short seasons Coach Olsen miraculously turned the program around from being in the cellar of the conference standings to being an admired organization of national prominence. After winning their first Pac-10 crown in 1986 the University of Arizona basketball machine would go on to be a Pac-10 power throughout the remainder of the century.

Sadly, on October 23, 2008 Coach Lute Olsen announced his retirement with the cause for the unexpected announcement later being explained by his physician as resulting from health concerns. Olsen was 74 years old at the time of his retirement. Assistant coach Russ Pennell took over on an interim basis after the retirement of Olsen. Pennell narrowly made the NCAA Tournament after the 2008-2009 season with a record of 19-13. The controversial selection by the NCAA Tournament committee raised some eyebrows as skeptics considered U of A to be a bubble team at best that was given the benefit of making the tournament primarily to extend their appearances streak to twenty-five years. Sean Miller took over head coaching duties on a permanent basis following the one year stint of Russ Pennell as interim head coach.

It remains to be seen exactly what will happen under the Sean Miller era. Coach Miller knows that he has very large shoes to fill by replacing legendary Coach Lute Olsen. The one aspect of this situation that can be accurately predicted is that University of Arizona basketball fans will continue to root on their team regardless of who holds the title of head coach.

University of Florida and the Acai Berry Study

The University of Florida and Acai go hand in hand with a great deal of research being conducted over the past several years.

university physics

The Brazilian berry has been proven to destroy cancer cells in the laboratory. This acai berry contains antioxidants that destroyed cultured human cancer cells in a recent University of Florida study. There will surely be more studies conducted on the effect of the acai berry on the healthy human being.

University

Acai berries are considered one of the richest fruit sources of antioxidants. This study at the University of Florida and acai does not report that the acai berry will prevent cancer.

The acai berry are produced by a specific palm tree in the rainforests of Brazil. The berry is extremely perishable and is often eaten after being picked from the tree. Commercial products have been out for only about five years. This has made it very difficult to do research on the acai berry.

Historically Brazilians have used acai berries to treat digestive disorders and skin conditions. There are many testimonials from people claming to feel better, look better and even lose weight. Though there are many claims for better health and weight loss, it is still too early to make these scientific facts.

The research continues at University of Florida and Acai with great hopes of offering many solutions to health issues.

There is a lot of research being done on the acai berry. The university of Florida and Acai is the place and the fruit that will continue to be a major project, with hopes of new solutions for medical issues.

UK University Rankings - A Comparison

Which is the best ranked university in the UK? How are universities performing? There is no official government ranking of universities in the UK. However, there are some newspaper rankings published every year by the Times Newspaper, The Telegraph,The BBC's Student Guide, The Independent University Guide and The Guardian.

university of arizona

Oxford is ranked as the Number 1 University by The Independent and Guardian, outperformed Cambridge in 2008. Oxford tops the Guardian league table, followed by Cambridge, London School of Economics, Warwick, St Andrews, Imperial, University College London, the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) and Edinburgh.

University

There are several university guides in the UK which rank all universities in order of merit, but based on different criteria. Guardian focuses on the quality of teaching and what students themselves think. The Independent Good University Guide (now The Complete University Guide) uses nine measures of quality - student satisfaction, research assessment, entry standards, student/staff ratio, library/computing spend, facilities spend, degree classifications, graduate prospects, and completion rates. All universities are assessed in these nine quality factors. It is a highly regarded university guide; students often make a reference to the ranking tables when choosing a university. There are 59 subject tables which rank the universities within individual subjects.

However, a university which ranked highly in The Times may appear in a poor position in other university guides such as the Sunday Times or the Guardian. In 2008, there are some big differences in ranking positions among the two famous university guides (Guardian and The Independent), such as the follows:

(1) University of Dundee is ranked 17 in the Guardian (A Top 20 University), but it is ranked 52 in The Independent, even not in the Top 50!

(2) University of Bristol is ranked 31 in the Guardian (outside Top30), but it is highly ranked in The Independent, at 16.

A Patrick Ewing Junior Biography - Through College at Indiana University and Georgetown University

Patrick Ewing Junior was born on May 20, 1984 around the time that his famous father was graduating from college at Georgetown University. Interestingly, the birth of Patrick Ewing Jr. occurred right between his father (who shares the same name) being named a first team All-American college basketball player and winning an Olympic gold medal with the 1984 United States basketball team in the Olympic games that were held in Los Angeles.

university

Ewing Junior, born in Boston, Massachusetts, attended college preparatory schools in New York, Georgia, and Maryland before deciding to attend Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. On May 1, 2003 as a senior in high school at National Christian Academy in Maryland Ewing formally committed to playing college basketball as an Indiana Hoosier. Although his father was a renowned 7 foot center with an 8 foot wingspan Ewing Jr. plays the power forward position as a 6'8" player in a game increasing filled with taller players from one generation to the next.

University

After playing for two years with Indiana University Patrick Ewing Junior decided to transfer to the same college that his father attended. In 2005 Ewing Jr. transferred from Indiana University to Georgetown University in Washington D.C. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) rules dictate that athletes transferring from one Division-I college to another Division-I college must first sit out a year before resuming competition. The purpose of this rule is believed to primarily be to discourage excessive transferring. The NCAA transfer rule is fairly effective at achieving this result.

After sitting out for the 2005-2006 college basketball season while attending classes at Georgetown University Ewing Jr. came back for the 2006-2007 season and was an effective contributor for a formidable Georgetown Hoyas team. As a proud member of the Georgetown basketball program Ewing Jr. wore number 33, the same number that his father wore on his jersey more than twenty years earlier. While wearing number 33 during his senior season Patrick Ewing Junior came off the bench for the Hoyas and averaged 6.1 points a game. Despite minimal statistical production on the court Ewing Junior was honored with the Big East Conference Sixth Man of the Year award. An interesting piece of trivia is that when Patrick Ewing Junior played basketball at Georgetown his head coach, John Thompson III, was the son of the man that coached his father at the exact same school two decades earlier.

Despite being taken with the 43rd pick in the 2008 NBA Draft the professional basketball career of Patrick Ewing Junior looks uncertain as he has already been sidetracked by injuries. Regardless of how the rest of his basketball career turns out many onlookers would agree that Patrick Ewing Junior has already achieved a great deal of success when considering the additional burden the pressure of being the son of an iconic star has had on his life.

Graduating from University

After all the late night partying of university, what is the one major hang over that most students are complaining about when its all over and they've graduated? The answer is student debt. Student debt levels continue to rise every year as banks and other lenders throw more and more credit their way while they are still studying. It seems as if the banks have plenty of faith in graduates being able to pay back the loans, and most graduates would confirm this. What is causing graduates stress is not toe overall levels of debt they have racked up while studying, which still averages under £15,000, but the fact that they have to pay such a high proportion of their new wages in debt servicing.

university of arizona

Graduation and the start of your working life are supposed to be a time of relative prosperity and the privations and economies of the student years should finally be over. However, more and more graduates are reporting that they have to pay so much in loan repayments that they are just as badly off as when they are students.

University

For example, a huge proportion of student debt is made up of government sponsored student loans, which come from the Student Loan Company. The repayment rules for these loans are quite lenient. Beginning in the April after you graduate, 9% of all your earnings above £15,000 will be taken to repay the loans. The interest is also quite preferable.

While this seems to be a fairly gentle way of repaying student loans, it should be remembered that these not the only debts that students have. Student overdrafts of up to £2,000, which are interest free, are now fairly standard practice. Almost every student will be given one when they open a student bank account and it's rare to find a student who hasn't spent it all.

Then there are credit cards and store cards, which are increasingly easy to get your hands on. Add to this the expenses of moving home when you graduate, starting a new job, getting a new place to live, and its no wonder that most graduates feel every bit as financially constrained as when they were still studying.

There are graduate loans available however which can be used to ease your way into working life. These offer postponed repayment terms so you have some time before you have to start repaying them all. The interest rates are generally pretty favourable and combined with the repayment holiday, which might be up to two years from graduation, you can really ease your way into working life.

The University of Texas

The University of Texas, with its flagship campus in Austin, is one of the original eight "Public Ivys," according to Richard Moll. Moll coined the phrase in his 1985 book, Public Ivys: A Guide to America's Best Public Undergraduate Colleges and Universities. The phrase has since come to include many more universities who offer an Ivy League education at a public university price.

UT earned such a distinction by providing a quality education for undergraduates since it opened its doors in 1883. As far back as 1839, the government of Texas set aside 40 acres of real estate in Austin for the purpose of starting a public university. They named the area College Hill. Construction did not begin until 1881, when Austin was officially made the main campus for the new university. By this time, Texas A&M had already beaten it to being the first university in Texas. Unfortunately, one of the most memorable points in the history of the University of Texas was when Charles Whitman barricaded himself and a rifle at the top of the Main Building Tower in 1966. He shot and killed 14 people.

University

Today, UT is one of the largest universities in the U.S. Enrollment reaches nearly 50,000 each year and the sprawling campus covers 350 acres near downtown Austin. Students and the public have access to seven museums and 17 libraries with over eight million volumes. Among its collections, the university owns one of only 21 copies of the Gutenberg Bible and the first photograph ever taken, created by Nicephore Niepce.

In terms of academics, UT consistently ranks very high. U.S. News and World Report ranks UT the 44th best university in the country and the 12th best public university. Many of its individual programs rank highly as well. For instance, the engineering school ranks in the top ten and the business school, fifth.

In athletics, UT also excels. Football is king in Texas and the UT Longhorns are consistently one of the best teams in the country. In 2005 won the NCAA national championship in Football. UT has also traditionally been successful in baseball, basketball, and swimming and diving. All large universities have their rivalries and for the Longhorns, its Texas A&M. The Longhorns and the Aggies have the third-longest running rivalry in the U.S.

In its long and distinguished history, UT has produced many successful graduates. Farrah Fawcett, Janis Joplin, Renee Zellweger, Roger Clemens, David Geffen, and many other famous people graduated from UT Austin.

The University of Texas along with the state capitol offers a steady economic base to the city of Austin that is able to stabilize Austin as other industries in Austin ebb and flow. For instance during the tech downturn in 2000/2001 which affected many cities in the United States part of the brunt of the economic downturn was mitigated by the employment base of University of Texas and the state capitol.

UT is an integral part of the city of Austin. Residents enjoy the atmosphere of prestigious athletics and academics that the school adds to their city.

Dave Christensen, Head Football Coach at University of Wyoming, Used to Be at University of Missouri

Dave Christensen became the head football coach for the University of Wyoming in 2009. Prior to joining the University of Wyoming Cowboys Christensen was an assistant football coach at the University of Washington (1989-1990), Idaho State University (1990-1991), University of Toledo (1992-2000), and most recently the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO (2001-2008).

university of arizona

Before Coach Christensen inherited the head coaching duties in Laramie, Wyoming, where the University of Wyoming is located, a man by the name of Joe Glenn served as the head football coach for six years from 2003-2008. Joe Glenn improved on the win-loss record of his predecessor Vic Koenning who had an abysmal record of 5-29 in three seasons as the head coach in Laramie from 2000-2002. Even though Coach Glenn moved the program in the right direction overall he was only able to post one winning season (7-5 in 2004) during his six years overseeing the organization. After going 9-15 in his final two seasons Joe Glenn was relieved of his post and the University of Wyoming brought in Dave Christensen, the accomplished University of Missouri offensive coordinator, to replace him.

University

As the offensive coordinator at the University of Missouri from 2001-2008 Dave made a name for himself as the architect of an explosive passing offensive that grew to be one of the top ranked offensives in Division-I football. The success that Christensen demonstrated at the University of Missouri made him a desirable head coaching candidate and a man that the Wyoming Cowboys were happy to hire. The spread offense that Dave employs has become a popular passing system by numerous teams that for the time being have found a way to confuse defenses by spreading the football around to lots of receivers running many different routes.

In his first season with the Cowboys Coach, Christensen posted a much improved 7-6 record for the 2009 football season. The successful first year campaign for the new head football coach was capped off with a thrilling 35-28 win in the 2009 New Mexico Bowl held on December 19, 2009 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The post season bowl victory was a significant feather in the cap of new head coach Dave Christensen because it marked only the second time since 1967 that the University of New Mexico was victorious in a post season bowl game.

Exactly what the future holds for Coach Dave Christensen at the University of Wyoming remains to be seen. Whether Christensen will have a long successful tenure in Laramie or simply use the position as a stepping stone towards greater career aspirations to lead a historically top ranked football program will only be revealed in time.

How Stanford University Got It's Name

Stanford University, the private research university located near Palo Alto, California, is known around the world for the first class education it provides to roughly 6,800 undergraduate students and about 8,300 graduate students every semester. Interestingly, while the institution of higher learning is a place that literally hundreds of thousands of students dream of one day attending few know the back story that explains how the Northern California school came to be known as Stanford University.

university of texas

The university, founded in 1891, shares its name with former California governor Leland Stanford, but the story does not end there. The school that now sits in Stanford, California (population approximately 13,000) was founded by Leland Stanford and his wife Jane Stanford in the late ninetieth century as a memorial to honor the untimely death of their son Leland Stanford Junior who died at the age of fifteen.

University

While traveling with his parents in Italy Leland Jr. was stricken with typhoid (today commonly referred to as Salmonella) which is a form of food poising in which ingested bacteria makes its way through the intestinal wall and into an area of the body where it can cause severe damage to multiple organs. While trouble with Salmonella or typhoid is still prevalent in much of the developing world at strongly endemic rates (death rates are about 10% to 30% in untreated instances) for the illness to cause death in the developed world in the twenty first century is extremely uncommon. Unfortunately for young Leland Stanford Junior the circumstances surrounding his infection did not include the ready access to life saving antibiotics that are common today. The end result was the death of Leland Junior about two months shy of his sixteenth birthday. Today Leland Jr. rests in peace on the Stanford University campus alongside both his mother and father who were eventually put to rest at the Stanford family mausoleum as well.

In addition to serving as a predecessor to eventual famed California governors Ronald Regan and Arnold Schwarzenegger Leland Stanford Senior sat as a United States senator from 1885 until his death at the age of 69 in 1893. It was during his final years alive that he formally founded Leland Stanford Junior University while serving as a US senator from California, an event that took place seven years after the death of his young son. The first student that was admitted to Stanford University in 1891 happened to be Herbert Hoover who would eventually become the thirty-first President of the United States in 1929.

Although nearly everyone refers to Stanford University by the shorted title that simply includes the two previously mentioned words the official full name of the school is Leland Stanford Junior University. In a somewhat clever, albeit insensitive manner, rival schools have been known to jokingly refer to Stanford University as a junior college as a play on the full title and the United States junior college system that prepares students for four year universities.

Ben Schwartzwalder Trophy Football Game - Syracuse University (SU) & West Virginia University (WVU)

College football is unique in the aspect that there are so many historical rivalries involving opposing colleges that are in many instances simply a short drive away. Further adding to the interesting dynamic of the rivalry relationship is that in college football these adversaries only compete against each other once every calendar year, thus maximizing the anticipation and the taste of victory or the agony of the defeat that much more intense.

university of michigan

With regards to the Ben Schwartzwalder Trophy that is awarded annually to the winner of the Syracuse University (SU) Orange versus West Virginia Mountaineers (WVU) contest there is actually the memory of an influential man memorialized every time the game or trophy is discussed. The honoring of a specific individual in the naming of this traveling trophy is unique to other rivalries that often times name their trophies after goofy myths as is the case with the Battle for Paul Bunyan's Axe (played between the University of Minnesota and the University of Wisconsin) and the Battle for the Golden Boot (played between the University of Arkansas and LSU). In other instances instead of chooses to honor an esteemed individual who has passed away colleges instead decide to name their traveling trophies after abstract concepts like the Founder's Cup (played between Washington University in St. Louis and the University of Chicago).

University

Ben Schwartzwalder was a football player at West Virginia University (WVU) as a youth and an accomplished head football coach at Syracuse University (SU) as an adult. Mr. Schwartzwalder passed away in June of 1993 shortly after celebrating his 84th birthday. In remembrance of the late influential football personality West Virginia University and Syracuse University began recognizing the man who impacted both of the schools by honoring him through naming a traveling trophy after him. The trophy, which was sculpted by a former Syracuse football player who played eight years in the NFL (Jim Ridlon), weighs a stout 55 pounds which is ironic considering that Schwartzwalder was known for being an undersized player when he played center at WVU at only 146 pounds.

The inaugural Ben Schwartzwalder Trophy was won by the alma mater of the namesake when WVU dominated SU in a 43-0 thumping in 1993. Of the 17 contests that have been played for the Ben Schwartzwalder Trophy the West Virginia Mountaineers have a commanding series lead with eleven wins to six that the Syracuse Orange have.

University Vs Community College

Is a university degree worth more than the paper it is written on? Many believe so, while others think you can get just as far if you have been to a community college. Let's weigh up some of the facts and see what the difference really is.

university of kentucky apparel

While having a university degree doesn't guarantee employment, it certainly improves your chances. As those with a degree tend to go for careers in the higher earnings bracket, a good standard of living will be your reward for all those years of studying.

University

Living on campus and experiencing that whole student lifestyle is a major plus form going to college. As you still live at home when attending a community college, you are effectively missing out on one of the biggest adventures in your life.

This plays a big part in deciding to go to a university instead of a community college. The chance to live with others of the same age and be independent is inspiring. This is the making of a lot of kids, and the time when they become adults.

Another plus from going to university is the diversity of your fellow students. There could be people on your lecture from many different nations, all bringing their culture into the mix.

The only community colleges that have anywhere near this kind of diversity are the ones in the larger, multi ethnic cities. Like New York for example.

Community colleges tend to attract students from the local vicinity, so there isn't the diverse cultural mix that exists at universities. If you want to experience different cultures first hand, then living on campus with the students from those backgrounds is by far the best way to do it.

The evenings are a huge part of life at a university. They take great pride in the entertainment that they have to offer their students, and heading for a theater or an art exhibition with your peers is a great experience. This just doesn't exist at a community college, yes you can make new friends but it will just be like high school when you have to think up things to do.

Taxila, Nalanda and Vikramsila universities were renowned centers of learning that attracted students from China, Korea, Tibet, Nepal, Burma (Myanmar) and Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). Higher education is something that has always occupied a centre stage in Indian culture since time immemorial.

The present higher education system in India goes back to 1823 when Mountstuart Elphinstone came up with minutes on education that emphasized the need to set up schools that would teach English and European Sciences to Indian students. The phenomenal thrust, however, came after the much talked about Macaulay's minutes (1835) and Sir Charles Wood's Dispatch (also known as the "Magna Carta of English Education in India") in the year 1854 recommended a proper hierarchy in the educational system, right from primary classes to higher education in the universities. Consequently, the universities of Bombay (now Mumbai), Calcutta (now Kolkata) and Madras (now Chennai) were set up in 1857.

University

In the year 1925, the Inter-University Board (Association of Indian universities) came into being with an aim to further educational, cultural and extra-curricular activities in the various universities across the country. However, the first attempt at establishing a nation-wide uniform system of higher education in India came with the Sargeant Report of 1944. The report recommended the formation of a University Grants Committee that would supervise the functions of three central universities - the Universities of Delhi, Banaras and Aligarh. Subsequently, in the year 1947, the committee was assigned the responsibility to look after all the Indian universities existing at that time.

The University Education Commission (which was established in 1948) recommended the formation of a University Grants Commission to be formulated on the lines of a similar body existing in the UK higher education system. Consequently, the commission was officially inaugurated on December 28, 1953 by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the then Minister of Education, Natural Resources and Scientific Research.

Over the years, the UGC established itself as a statutory body of the Indian government that takes care of the coordination and maintenance of norms of higher education in the country.

University - Defining Characteristics

Studying at a university can be the culmination of a lifelong academic dream for aspiring students. In the western world, the terms "university", "college", and "school" are used as interchangeable entities, when in fact, they have meanings that are significantly different. So what are the defining characteristics of a university?

university of texas

Universities are generally divided into multiple departments, colleges, and schools based on academic theme. For instance: The University of Southern California contains the Keck School of Medicine, the College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences, and the Student Affairs Department; to name just a few of the entities that comprise the university as a whole.

University

Although the exact organizational structure varies from institution to institution, nearly every university has a board of trustees, a chancellor or president, at least one vice chancellor or vice president, and multiple deans.

One of the primary defining characteristic of universities is that they offer both undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs in multiple areas of academic endeavor. During your academic career, it is possible to attend multiple schools or colleges within the same university.

Generally speaking, the acceptance requirements for a university are far more stringent than those of a community college or trade school. In fact there are some colleges that accept anyone who has a High School Diploma and can afford to pay the tuition. In almost all universities there are additional prerequisites and standards for student acceptance.

There are private and public universities. Private universities are corporations operated in similar fashion to any other corporation; the primary idea being to make a profit for its shareholders. Private universities are primarily funded by student tuition payments.

On the other hand, there are government funded universities throughout the United States. These universities are funded by the state and/or federal government in combination with student tuition payments. As a result, they do not enjoy the autonomy of private run universities. However, due to the government contributions, the tuition rates at public universities are significantly lower than at private universities.
